The teams in the teams in efl league one and two have today agreed to end their seasons with tables decided on an unweighted ppg and to keep promotion and relegation source source .
they have agreed to keep promotion and relegation and will look to hold playoffs though restricted to just 4 teams in each league. An interesting point is that it has been announced wembley will hold the playoff finals so it will be interesting to see how that plays out if its behind closed doors as that must be a costly event to hold.
Relegation from league two cannot be confirmed at present due to on going investigations into Macclesfield what could result in a further points deduction. Given that Bury were expelled from League one means there will only be one team relegated with Stevenage currently in bottom spot. There was an indication that relegation would only happen if the National League could guarantee that season 2020-21 would start so we will await and see,
Presumably this announcement means the National League can now finally decide on the outcome of their season for their 3 leagues. It is probable that they will follow suit with a ppg outcome with promotion and relegation kept plus playoffs. How quickly playoffs could take place will be interesting to see, there is an added complication for Harrogate of having a 4g pitch which is not acceptable for entry into League two. I was under the impression that this restriction would mean they could not remain in the National League if they won promotion and were refused entry into the EFL though Harrogate have indicated they will replace their pitch with a grass one. No doubt clubs at level 3 of the non league pyramid are closely following the outcome as there is still some dissatisfaction at the leagues being made null and void and threats of legal action remain.
